Weed Box

Weed Box

A weed box or weed container, which we commonly refer to as a cannabis humidor is an airtight box specifically designed and used to store marijuana for short and long-term storage. By controlling humidity, the weed containers maintain freshness and taste. Proper storage of cannabis is critical for keeping it as potent as possible because cannabis loses it potency and freshness when exposed to oxygen and UV light. Clear glass jars and clear plastic containers let in UV light, which degrades THC within cannabis buds. The best place to store your marijuana is in a dark and humid controlled environment that isn’t too humid (between 65°F to 70°F and 55% to 62% relative humidity). You should avoid storing cannabis in a refrigerator and certainly do not store cannabis in a freezer. This is because the trichomes will become too brittle and break off, thus losing THC. Any kind of cooling agent will accelerate evaporative loss and dry out the buds quicker. The goal is to preserve the sticky resin glands and handle them gently.

Weed boxes are typically made of wood, although other materials, like acrylic glass and metal, are not uncommon. The overall purpose is to protect the interior from the outside and create a closed environment, so any durable and airtight material can be used. Our weed box provides the appropriate level of moisture because we use humidity beads that regulate the relative humidity inside of the weed box. Our weed boxes are also lined with mahogany, which is a neutral wood that won’t impart any oils that can change the taste of cannabis. It’s also resistant to warping and bending in higher humidity levels. The ideal humidity in a cigar humidor is around 68% to 72% relative humidity, though it can go higher or lower depending on the smoker’s preferences. The relative humidity of a weed box should never go higher than 75% relative humidity.

The two biggest myths about storing marijuana are keeping it in a freezer and adding fruit to the storage container in order to keep the buds moist. When you freeze cannabis, those potent little trichomes become tiny icicles and break off, thus losing potency. By adding fruit to your weed box, you are inviting harmful agents like bacteria and mold. Fruit does not have the ability to regulate humidity and will evaporate all of it’s moisture, thus causing the humidity to be too high and cause mold. Weed boxes are designed to keep your medical cannabis both fresh and potent for a very long time. To protect the potency and taste of your cannabis for long periods, smart storage is a must!
